Day to Day

Well we had one hell of a storm last night and finally the heavens opened and it poured down rain for at least an hour .Great !! now I don't have to do the bucket brigade today but my front lawn is a mess with leaves and twigs strewn all over the place so I will be out there with a rake when it gets a little warmer , its sunny but quite cool today so I'm going to keep my self warm .Maximum 20 deg C which is quite cool for a Queensland Autumn day.I have added a new poem there are a few more to come , so I whish you all Peace Love and Happiness where ever you are .

Poetry

Poetry has been for many centuries a way to sum up a lot of thoughts in just a few words. There is a certain feeling that you can get from reading a 3-4 stanzas long poem that you like that you can’t get from reading hundreds of narrative pages. There is that sense of multiple layers, every stanza, every verse and sometimes even every word means more then one thing, or can be interpreted in multiple ways, and trying to find “the right meaning”(which by the way you will never find :) ) is itself a very pleasurable activity. There is a certain sense of discovery that can keep you connected far beyond the mere reading of the words that make up the poem.

And this is why I think poetry is today a very neglected art form , I love poetry of all types and enjoy writing it as well those new poems are slowly taking shape so I hope to have them posted soon Brettskib:}

Beauty

Unfortunately not to many people these days understand this one very important thing: “Beauty” doesn’t necessarily mean “pink flowers” or “fluffy white clouds”.
Things are not simply beautiful or not beautiful, because beauty isn’t something fixed; it’s not a certain colour, shape or texture. Here’s the deal: beauty doesn’t even exist, it is not intrinsic to anything. No object, person or concept can be beautiful or ugly or anything else without someone judging it. I could go as far as calling beauty a certain feeling or a state of mind that one experiences upon seeing or hearing something, analysing or understanding a concept or idea.
So for the vast majority beauty may be associated with light, warmth, vivid colours, soft textures and melodic sounds. I do not claim to be the complete opposite to all of these but for me there is much more to beauty then fluffy cuteness.

Some Walt Whitman

Poetry of Walt Whitman
Leaves of Grass

[BOOK V.  CALAMUS]

}  In Paths Untrodden

In paths untrodden,
In the growth by margins of pond-waters,
Escaped from the lite that exhibits itself,
From all the standards hitherto publish'd, from the pleasures,
    profits, conformities,
Which too long I was offering to feed my soul,
Clear to me now standards not yet publish'd, clear to me that my soul,
That the soul of the man I speak for rejoices in comrades,
Here by myself away from the clank of the world,
Tallying and talk'd to here by tongues aromatic,
No longer abash'd, (for in this secluded spot I can respond as I
    would not dare elsewhere,)
Strong upon me the life that does not exhibit itself, yet contains
    all the rest,
Resolv'd to sing no songs to-day but those of manly attachment,
Projecting them along that substantial life,
Bequeathing hence types of athletic love,
Afternoon this delicious Ninth-month in my forty-first year,
I proceed for all who are or have been young men,
To tell the secret my nights and days,
To celebrate the need of comrades.

Along with A.E.Poe I love the works Of Walt Whitman my own poems at present are still in the editing process so I will have to wait a bit longer before I think there ready to post .

Day To Day

Well I got to the plant shop but decided against buying any poison feeling a little bored I decided to take a drive up to Mount Glorious and have an afternoon tea at a wonderful cafe there run by a couple of friends of mine Sam and Dan , The Mountain is about 50 kicks from my place so it was a pleasant drive . Once there I ordered a pot of Earl Gray tea and a wonderful cheese cake to go with it , So I spent my afternoon sitting on the balcony of this cafe and taking in the views , from there you can just about see the whole city where I live and way out to sea as well I borrowed a friends binoculars and spent a few peace full hours looking around the mountain and the city , from up there you can even see The two huge Islands just of shore of Brisbane they are called North and South Strabroke Islands I whish now that I had taken my camera because it was very beautiful up there and I would like to share with you all some of the so far unspoiled Beauty around Brisbane .On the way home I stopped in at a local plant shop and brought a couple of plants , I have just come in from planting them so decided to do a blog and then get ready for whatever the evening has to offer it does look as though its going to be a relatively cold night tonite so I will rug up tight after my shower and make sure that I'm nice and warm, before I get into some serious writing have a couple of poems slowly taking shape in my mind and I need to get them down on paper, believe it or not I always write my poetry on paper then transfer it to the computer where I can redraft and reedit until I content with what I have done so hopefully by morning I should have a couple of new poems to post although I am not making any promises here as I said before I have a free night and me being me could get up to anything LOL well almost anything LOL

Cheers brettskib

Day to Day

Alas no rain, now the weatherman says a chance of a shower LOL I suppose they just want to cover themselves LOL. I just came in from the garden in a bit of a bother as some bugs have been chewing on my most loved orchards , don't seem to be able to catch them or poison them have tried every trick in the book so far to no avail , so I guess its either I poison myself or I learn to live in harmony with the bugs so far the bugs are winning so I'm off to day to see what the garden shop has in the way of pest control but I admit that Ive just about given up !!! So I guess I will have to learn to live with the orchid eating bugs I suppose everything has a place in a well tended garden and may be there is a lesson for me to learn here but don't quite Know what it is yet. Maybe its just to live in harmony with all things even if they do like munching on my prize orchids !!! Have some some poems written and will be adding them latter on to day take care all of my net friends and be your own best friend bye for now Brett:)

Day To Day

Woke up got out of bed and dragged a comb across my head "(A day in

A Life" by the Beatles ). This was literally how my morning went today sunshine brightly the garden was all a glow with dew yet still no rain , I apologize if I keep commenting on the weather here but we are really in the worst drought in Australia's history !!!The recent floods out West have sent food prices skyrocketing got a real shock at the super market yesterday I estimate that my food bill has increased by 20%.Trying to save is becoming a bit of a problem but I know with a little bit stashed here and there I will make it through tho I often wonder how some people cope on a fixed income. The lucky country aint so lucky anymore doing some research yesterday I found that Australia in the sixties had the highest standard of living in the World now we rank about 27 or so depends on the source. So what happened many people say that we road on the sheep's back for far to long and our useless Governments both State and Federal didn't put any money away for a rainy day now with the recession in the US of A things are going to get a lot harder for us all. Yet there is no point in concentrating on the negatives !!!Paranondx2

sent me a offer to a new blog site so if you get an email from me it was part of the deal of joining but I think you should take a look at it as it seems very interesting ,Hope Barbs arm heals and I haven't heard  from Sage for quite some time I do hope that the lovely lady is not to ill My thoughts are with her as well as with Stephen who seems to be having some computer problems I love his site and his comments so I do hope that he will be back on line before to long!!

Wishing you all Love Light and Happiness Brettskib

Typical

Just weeks before it announced the onset of a global food crisis and the urgent need for donors to provide at least $775 million in additional funding, the World Food Program was sitting on a cash and near-cash stockpile of more than $1.22 billion.

The startling figure is contained in the latest audited statements of the WFP, which were endorsed by the WFP’s executive director, Josette Sheeran, on March 31, just a month before Sheeran announced at an international aid conference on April 22 that a "silent tsunami" in rising food prices demanded the huge infusion of cash for the WFP’s latest budget.

In a May 1 International Herald Tribune op-ed, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon further declared that the WFP had just "$18 million cash in hand" in the wake of its appeal for emergency funding.

The audited statements are due to be presented to the annual Rome meeting of the WFP’s supervisory executive board in June.

Click here to see the audited financial statements.

The $1.22 billion figure, tallied as of Dec. 31, represents an increase of nearly $400 million over the WFP’s cash reserves a year earlier, as laid out in a report to the WFP’s governing executive board in June 2007.

Related

Click here to see the investment performance report.

The cash stockpile was in addition to pledges for an additional $1.33 billion, all of which left the organization with more than $2 billion in anticipated cash and reserves just before it made its most recent urgent appeal.

In all, the auditors declared, the WFP had added an additional $91 million in cash assets over the 12-month period, leaving the U.N.’s emergency food supplier with roughly the same reserve assets it held in 2005.

Ever since the WFP announced the looming crisis of food aid for the world’s poorest people — based largely on dramatic international hikes in food costs — the World Food Program and other U.N. spokesmen, including Ban, have been steadily ratcheting up the tab required to top off the WFP’s budget to meet 2008 needs.

Initially, Sheeran announced that some $500 million was needed, though she added that would not fully fund such things as school food programs for some 20 million hungry youngsters. By the time of the aid conference, attended largely by U.N. agencies and World Bank representatives, the needed funding had risen to $775 million.

By the time the conference ended, Ban had put the shortfall at roughly $1 billion.

Ban also announced that a U.N. task force dealing with the food crisis would need as much as $1.6 billion in additional funding for seed programs and other means of expanding the global food supply.

On Thursday, President George W. Bush called on Congress to add $770 million in new international food aid to some $350 million in new aid he disclosed after the WFP announced the "silent tsunami" crisis.

I found these figures whilst doing an essay on Globalisation for a collage course I want to start next year I was stunned and amazed to find this article , typical of Big Government I don't often agree with Mr Bush but I must admit I applaud his efforts to give more money to the WEP if only the rest of the world was just as generous Brettskib:)

Drifting

GRAYS CONFORMING TO THE EXISTENCE OF THE COLORED MIND
DRIFTING IN THE SOLACE STATE OF SOLIDITY AND OVER ANXIETY
DREAMING BEFORE AWAKENING
BEFORE THE REBEL LIE UPON THE FACE
HAS TURNED TO FROWN
ALLOW THE HAPPINESS OF UNREALITY
TO DISPLAY THAT WHICH IS NOT ABLE
RATHER EMPTY IS THIS PLACE AWAKE
DREAMING IN THE WORLD OF THOUGHT
MY THINKING THOUGHT TO BREAK
PROGRAMMED ALL THAT WAS YOU
BIT AND BYTES BEGUILED
DRINKING DROUGHTS OF DRUGS CONSTRUED
AS WANT SUSTAINED BY MIND
A BEAUTIFUL FACE LEFT IN THE RAIN
FOREVER UPON MY LIFE SHALL DRAIN
AND GONE THE YOU THAT IS NOT ME
PERPETUAL IN MY MIND WILL BE

Another Poem

Where sunless rivers weep
Their waves into the deep,
She sleeps a charmed sleep:
Awake her not.
Led by a single star,
She came from very far
To seek where shadows are
Her pleasant lot.
She left the rosy morn,
She left the fields of corn,
For twilight cold and lorn
And water springs.
Through sleep, as through a veil,
She sees the sky look pale,
And hears the nightingale
That sadly sings.
Rest, rest, a perfect rest
Shed over brow and breast;
Her face is toward the west,
The purple land.
She cannot see the grain
Ripening on hill and plain;
She cannot feel the rain
Upon her hand.
Rest, rest, for evermore
Upon a mossy shore;
Rest, rest at the heart's core
Till time shall cease:
Sleep that no pain shall wake;
Night that no morn shall break
Till joy shall overtake
Her perfect peace.

I  enjoyed this poem by Serrini Orressi

Hope you all like it to Brettskib:)

Alone

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then–in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life–was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.

For Jen

My angel is the one who looks over me
My angel is the who cares for me
My angel is the one who loves me
My angel has beautiful blue eyes
My angel has beautiful blond hair
My angel will be there when I get hurt
My angel will be the one that is always on my mind

She is the angel that keeps me breathing
She is the angel of my dreams
She is the angel that keeps me alive
My angel will cheer me up when I’m sad

Day to DAY

I wrote this poem when I was in the Canary Islands last year and if I remember correctly I was sitting in a little Internet Café surrounded by drunk tourists and bored out of my brain , personally I don't think that it is very good it has my usual themes of danger approaching war on the horizon etc.

TIME TAKES TIME TO PASS
ME WELL
 I NEVER ASK
YOU WHO SHALL FOLLOW THE MYSTERIOUS WAYS
OF RADIOS AND OCEANS
ON BOUNCING WAVES
SITTING IN CAFÉ ON AN ISLAND IN THE SUN
LOTS OF DRUNKEN SAILORS
ON SODDEN RUM
ME I'M AN OUTSIDER NO MATTER
WHERE I GO
STATION TO STATION
A DIAL ON MY RADIO
TUNE IN IF YOU LIKE
BUT CONFUSION IS IN THE AIR

BUT DO THEY OFTEN CARE
WE ARE IN A WORLD THATS SADLY MARCHING TO WAR
THE SIGNS ARE ON THE WINDOWS
BUT SOME ONE LOCKED THE DOOR

Children of the Night

For those that never know the light,
The darkness is a sullen thing;
And they, the Children of the Night,
Seem lost in Fortune's winnowing.

But some are strong and some are weak, --
And there's the story.  House and home
Are shut from countless hearts that seek
World-refuge that will never come.

And if there be no other life,
And if there be no other chance
To weigh their sorrow and their strife
Than in the scales of circumstance,

'T were better, ere the sun go down
Upon the first day we embark,
In life's imbittered sea to drown,
Than sail forever in the dark.

But if there be a soul on earth
So blinded with its own misuse
Of man's revealed, incessant worth,
Or worn with anguish, that it views

No light but for a mortal eye,
No rest but of a mortal sleep,
No God but in a prophet's lie,
No faith for "honest doubt" to keep;

If there be nothing, good or bad,
But chaos for a soul to trust, --
God counts it for a soul gone mad,
And if God be God, He is just.

And if God be God, He is Love;
And though the Dawn be still so dim,
It shows us we have played enough
With creeds that make a fiend of Him.

There is one creed, and only one,
That glorifies God's excellence;
So cherish, that His will be done,
The common creed of common sense.

It is the crimson, not the gray,
That charms the twilight of all time;
It is the promise of the day
That makes the starry sky sublime;

It is the faith within the fear
That holds us to the life we curse; --
So let us in ourselves revere
The Self which is the Universe!

Let us, the Children of the Night,
Put off the cloak that hides the scar!
Let us be Children of the Light,
And tell the ages what we are!

Some sad facts

  • Half the world — nearly three billion people — live on less than two dollars a day.
  • The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the 41 Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (567 million people) is less than the wealth of the world’s 7 richest people combined.
  • Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.
  • Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn’t happen.
  • 1 billion children live in poverty (1 in 2 children in the world). 640 million live without adequate shelter, 400 million have no access to safe water, 270 million have no access to health services. 10.6 million died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5 (or roughly 29,000 children per day).
  • And we think we have it tough
  • Be grateful for what you have my friends

SMOKE

SMOKE

A spark is in the air ,

I heard a knock but there was know one there !

Only footsteps  /    Listen ?

Hear the breathing \  heart beating .

Some one is coming home .

                                       No one is leaving .

A darkened cave , with a guarded fire .

The game is up .

The hunter's at the gate .

Did you listen to me ?

                               That night .

The sky was wet , the moon bright ,

Yet fleeting ,

Opened up .

Still seething ,

Who put this in me ?

This spark ,

Was before conception .

I am still watching ,

                             deep water ,

Listening I hear only time grinding inevitability into dust .

Time , ticking away .

Soon it will be gone .

This honeyed hour ,

a sweet and wistful mood .

Transcendence is an Art ,

A channel , so open up , open up !

Let real life in ,

                        Shsss ,

                                  I have gone !

SHIPS

SHIPS

To sail across a sea of troubles ,

And weather the storms of my heart .

Finding shelter in calmer waters ,

  The sun shinning bright .

Turning the waters into glass ,

Strong enough to walk upon ,

Clear enough to give me faith .

There is a time , there is a place !

Every sign was written in your face .

I will hold a candle to your your love .

Search for you in thoughts above ,

As the everyday's tossing and turning .

Last thing every night , I will cherish your memory ,

When I awake I still hold it with in me .

You stood in the garden ,

And told me you had found your love .

Letting your gypsy soul find peace ,

It's clear nessecity , giving you release .

You went away , I let you go ,

The reasons why I will never know .

Now your finally beyond reach ,

And here I am stranded on life's empty beach .

I always remembered a night ! ,

When we were holding close .

I saw you in me , You saw me in you ,

We were both the same person

Thank you

I was so lost

Confused and bereft of confidence

Then without realizing something grew

Between the chats and friendly comments

I feel a little stronger now

More confident and proud

That this unlooked for union

Has become so deep and meaningful

To me a lonely man

Who now no longer feels so alone

I have you my friend

To walk beside me

Along these myriad paths

To both gaze in wonder at

Each moments unique beauty

To share our joys and sorrows

To be equal to each other

Both gaining comfort

From this simple friendship

That has grown so fast

Into a tower of support

Each night before I fall asleep

I think of you my dear

And know no matter how dark it seems

There really is nothing to fear .

Love

Love one another, but make no bond of love; let it rather be
a moving sea between the shores of your soul. Fill each other’s
cup, but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread,
but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and
be joyous, but let each one of you be alone....Kahlil Gibran.
